?TR606 manual + DIY tapeloops
last update: 2 Mar 2026
?TR606 is a Mellotron style walkman Cassette player/recorder with a Sound On Sound feature (S.O.S.)
The bottom 3 connect to the relay and can be used to switch a signal, the switch type is SPDT.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Mic or line input (also works with piezo's/ contact mics).
- Line out/headphone out (if you want to use line out you have to connect a mono jack into the cassette player, stereo won't work. If you connect a stereo jack it will give a hum and much lower volume).
- S.O.S. There is a Momentary switch to record s.o.s. and there is a toggle switch (left switch on the side). When s.o.s. is active you hear no sound, when you stop using s.o.s. the sound volume will fade back up.
- Power 2x AA battery or USB-C (some might have a DC connector with provided power cable to connect it to a USB power supply).
- (includes a loop tape and a external mic).
- There is a build in radio receiver, when the radio is selected/on and you press record on the the cassette it will record the radio on the cassette.
- CV input, it works with modular level CV inputs, and it is direct, so quite preciese. The CV level can be adjusted with the small knob.
- There are 4 speeds that can be selected with keyboard style buttons, the green button has a can be turned on by a toggle switch (that is under it) so it can stay on.
- The trimmer pots can be used to adjust the pitch range, when left in the center they are fine in my opinion.
Tapeloops (under construction):
Instructions for helping you make your own tape loops.
Tools:
- Tape splicer. (i use the; Splicit Tape Splicing Block 1/8, from Thomann)
- Scissors and Stanley knife.
- Casette.
- Small Philips head screw driver (opening the casettes).
- Precision tweezers.
- Cassette Splicing Tape 1/8 (i bought mine from aliexpress).
- Spacers (need to find the parts numbres).
The 305mm tape loop is the better option because its easier, you dont need to use glue,
the pins that hold the spacers are already on the casette. These are TDK casette tapes, other tapes will not have the pins like this.
So you will need to use TDK tapes for this.
